Krijn de Koning has this very special touch in his Art which is much more related to Architecture than Sculpture.
Wherever he is called to dwell an historical monument, he is to take visitors in a sensorial experience, authorizing them to walk into the new configuration he designed for the site. He plans a deconstruction in order to, as a film register, unable anyone to see the little secrets and unexplored details that at first had his attention. In the Maladrerie of the French city of Beauvais, a medieval religious place for the leprous, in ruins but to be restored, Krijn guided us for a great itinerary through corridors and windows, from shadows to light. The whole structure was conceived out of plain wood, linking and leading us into the three places as if we were little passengers evolving in a body. The intensity of the path is dramatically enlighted thanks to the use of colour in the inside surfaces. An artificial green painting causes a contrast with the natural environment and makes all around more visible. We are expecting his next projects, a cathedral in Rotterdam, and for 2012 the decor of an opera. You will sure be informed.
